Red Lions Show Early Promise but Fall on the Road to Berlin Thunder

Jul 12, 2026

The Firenze Red Lions were defeated 49–3 by the Berlin Thunder in Week 8 of the American Football League Europe following a challenging road game at Cantianstadion.

Firenze opened the game with confidence, putting together an impressive opening possession that lasted nearly nine and a half minutes. Mixing the running and passing game effectively, the offense moved the ball consistently down the field before the drive ended with a missed field goal, denying the Red Lions the opportunity to take an early lead.

Berlin capitalized on that momentum swing, finding the end zone on its first offensive series and gradually taking control of the game. Despite continued effort from the Red Lions throughout all four quarters, the home team proved efficient on both sides of the ball, creating favorable field position through a strong defensive performance.

Making their first appearances for the franchise, quarterback Harry Roubidoux and wide receiver Keith Coffee brought new energy to the offense and showed encouraging signs throughout the contest. However, a combination of turnovers and penalties prevented Firenze from building offensive rhythm and converting promising possessions into points.

Although the final result was disappointing, the matchup provided another valuable opportunity for a young roster to gain experience against one of the league's most established teams. The Red Lions will now turn their attention to the next challenge as they continue building the foundations of the franchise throughout its inaugural AFLE season.
