Red Lions Fall Short in Thrilling 45–42 Battle Against Alpine Rams

Aug 8, 2026

The Firenze Red Lions came within one possession of forcing overtime against the Alpine Rams in one of the most spectacular games of the AFLE season, eventually falling 45–42 in a thrilling finish.

The game was an offensive shootout from the opening snap, with the two teams combining for nearly 1,200 total yards. Despite the final result, Firenze produced a strong offensive performance and remained within striking distance throughout the game.

Quarterback Eystin Salum once again found a strong connection with wide receiver Mali Harris-Strayhorn, with the duo leading the Red Lions' offensive response throughout the afternoon. Running back Brandon Belgrave also made an important contribution through the passing game.

The Red Lions had a chance to send the game to overtime on their final drive. Salum appeared to have found the end zone, but a penalty erased the play. Firenze was unable to finish the drive from there, and the subsequent field-goal attempt was blocked, bringing an end to the comeback attempt.

The game also highlighted the chaotic nature of the afternoon, with both teams combining for 31 penalties and more than 260 penalty yards.

For the Red Lions, the 45–42 defeat was ultimately decided in the final moments. Firenze showed the ability to trade scores with an Alpine offense that produced a record-breaking performance, while continuing to compete until the very last play.

The result may not have gone the Red Lions' way, but the performance produced another high-scoring battle and another opportunity for the team to continue developing through the final weeks of the season.
